Domaine Chauveau – Cuvée Calcaire 2025
Grape Variety
- 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Description
Produced by Domaine Chauveau in the Centre-Loire region, Cuvée Calcaire is sourced from vineyards planted on limestone-clay soils within the Coteaux du Giennois appellation. This terroir gives the wine its distinctive mineral profile and freshness. Aged on fine lees, the wine gains additional texture while preserving the vibrant character of Sauvignon Blanc. Elegant, expressive and highly approachable, it offers a wonderful introduction to the style of wines produced alongside the more famous neighbouring appellations of Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre.

Crisp, vibrant and beautifully balanced. Flavours of lemon, grapefruit and green apple are supported by floral notes and a refreshing mineral backbone. The lees ageing brings a gentle roundness that complements the wine's lively acidity.

Clean, energetic and refreshing, with lingering citrus notes, subtle salinity and a touch of chalky minerality.

Olivier's Thoughts
This is one of those wines that consistently surprises people. Many wine lovers immediately gravitate towards Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé when looking for Loire Sauvignon Blanc, but Cuvée Calcaire demonstrates just how much value can be found in neighbouring appellations. It delivers everything I enjoy in Loire Sauvignon Blanc: freshness, purity, minerality and superb drinkability. The limestone soils bring a lovely chalky character that adds complexity without making the wine feel serious or intimidating. For customers who enjoy Sancerre but are looking to discover something new, this is a bottle I recommend with complete confidence. It is vibrant, food-friendly and offers exceptional value for money.
