Domaine de la Barbotaine Sancerre Blanc 2024

Grape Variety

  • 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Description

Produced by the Champault family at Domaine de la Barbotaine in the village of Crézancy, this Sancerre is a classic expression of Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The estate's vineyards are planted on a combination of limestone and clay soils rich in caillottes—the small white stones that contribute to the freshness and mineral character for which Sancerre is renowned. Vinified entirely in stainless steel to preserve purity and aromatics, this wine offers precision, elegance and a true sense of place.

Tasting Notes

Brilliant pale yellow with bright green reflections.

Nose
Expressive aromas of lemon zest, grapefruit, freshly cut grass and white blossom, underpinned by subtle chalky mineral notes.

Palate
Fresh, vibrant and beautifully balanced. Citrus fruits, green apple and gooseberry combine with crisp acidity and a distinctive limestone-driven minerality. The wine shows both energy and finesse, with excellent purity throughout.

Finish
Long, clean and refreshing, with lingering citrus, mineral notes and a touch of salinity.

Olivier's Thoughts

This is one of the benchmark Sancerres in our range and a wine I frequently recommend when customers ask for a classic Loire Sauvignon Blanc. What I particularly enjoy is its balance between freshness and elegance. It has all the hallmarks people expect from Sancerre—citrus, minerality and precision—without ever becoming overly sharp or aggressive. The chalky limestone soils give it a lovely tension that makes every glass feel refreshing. Whether paired with seafood, goat's cheese or enjoyed on its own, this is a wine that consistently delivers and showcases exactly why Sancerre remains one of the world's most respected white wine appellations.
