Domaine de la Barbotaine Sancerre Rouge 2023
Grape Variety
- 100% Pinot Noir
Description
While Domaine de la Barbotaine is widely known for its excellent Sauvignon Blanc, the estate also produces a beautifully expressive Sancerre Rouge from Pinot Noir. Situated in the village of Crézancy-en-Sancerre, the Champault family cultivates vineyards on the limestone-rich slopes that have made Sancerre famous. The combination of cool Loire Valley conditions and chalky soils allows Pinot Noir to develop elegance, freshness and a distinctive mineral character.
The 2023 vintage delivers a refined and approachable style, showcasing the delicate fruit and silky texture that make Loire Pinot Noir such a rewarding discovery for lovers of Burgundy and lighter reds.

Olivier's Thoughts
This wine is a hidden gem in the Domaine de la Barbotaine range. Most people immediately associate Sancerre with Sauvignon Blanc, but the region's Pinot Noir can be equally impressive. What I particularly enjoy here is the purity of the fruit and the freshness that comes from the Loire climate. It has the elegance and finesse that Pinot Noir lovers seek, yet remains wonderfully approachable and food-friendly.
If you enjoy lighter Burgundy, Fleurie or elegant Pinot Noir styles, this is a bottle that deserves your attention. Served slightly chilled with roast poultry, charcuterie or a cheeseboard, it truly shines and offers a fascinating alternative to more expensive Pinot Noir regions.
